Applications are invited for 2 fellowships at the University of Liège (Belgium), as part of the ARC research project MIND – The British Sources of Philosophy of Mind 1888-1949.
Postdoctoral position (3 years): the Cambridge intellectual milieu
Duration: 3 years, 1st January 2024 – 31 December 2026 (exact start date to be agreed upon).
Topic of the research
- The philosophical foundations of scientific psychology (WP1, H1).
- Intentionality and the Brentano legacy (WP2, H2).
- The method of analysis (WP3, H3).

Profile
- PhD in philosophy.
- Solid background in the history of 19th and 20th-century philosophy (analytic philosophy or philosophy of mind).
- You meet the conditions for the allocation of a "foreign post-doctoral grant" in Belgium: you have obtained a PhD less than 10 years ago and have not lived or worked in your main job in Belgium during more than 24 months in the past 3 years before the start of the fellowship.
- International experience.
- Fluency in English. Mastering of French is an advantage but is not mandatory.
- Communication, organizational and teamwork skills.
Your duties
- Active participation in the research project: administrative responsibilities, teamwork with the cosupervisors and external members, organization of workshops/conferences, editing work.
- Active research in the area of the project. The fellow is expected to write and submit at least one paper per year.
- Full-time unconstrained research at ULiège (presence on site required; during the fellowship, no other paid work for ULiège or a third party may be performed).
- The coordinator will supervise the postdoc on a daily basis and organize the work within the relevant work package. The entire project team will hold operational meetings on a regular basis to ensure coordination.
- The fellow will be evaluated on a yearly basis by the project board.
Our offer
- The fellow will be offered a net salary of approx. EUR 3.000 and a research-travel-mobility allowance.
- The fellow will be given the opportunity to develop his/her skills as leading researcher; he/she will join the Creph — Center for Phenomenological Research (ULiège), which gathers a number of researchers active in the field of phenomenological philosophy and philosophy of mind.
- The Euraxess Service Center of the University of Liège will provide a personalized relocation service for each fellow as well as to his/her family.

PhD fellowship (4 years): Philosophy of Mind in the Cambridge School
Duration: 4 years, 1st January 2024 – 31 December 2027 (exact start date to be agreed upon).
Profile
- Master in philosophy.
- Significant interest and background in the history of 19th and 20th-century philosophy (analytic philosophy or philosophy of mind).
- Fluency in English. Mastering of French is an advantage but is not mandatory.
Your duties
- The fellow will write a PhD thesis some aspects of the philosophy of mind developed in the Cambridge school (George F. Stout, B. Russell, G.E. Moore, C.D. Broad, etc.), under the supervision of the project coordinator. Joint supervision is allowed. The topic of the thesis will be subject to open discussion with the supervisor.
- Active participation in the research project; teamwork with the cosupervisors and external members. The entire project team will hold one operational meeting per month to ensure coordination.
