The Anthropological Question and Phenomenology

University of Liège, October 8, 9 et 10, 2008.
Location: Salle des Professeurs, Main building (A1), second floor
(Access by the main entrance, 7, place du 20-Août)

Presentation: The conference 'The Anthropological Question and Phenomenology' aims to bring to light some positive or negative uses of the term anthropology in contemporary thought, especially from a phenomenological point of view. This perspective should allow:

  1. to question the Kantian horizon of the question of man;
  2. to describe the German philosophical context of Husserlian-inspired phenomenology and to explore its actual or possible reactivations;
  3. to study the particular conditions and still perceptible effects of the French reception of phenomenology;
  4. to precisely examine the relationship between phenomenology and human sciences: psychoanalysis, psychiatry, social and cultural anthropology, sociology.

Some of the most fundamental concepts of modern and contemporary philosophy (finiteness, facticity, transcendentality, subjet, consciousness, etc.) will be reconsidered on the basis of a critical return to the phenomenological method and to the description of intentional life in its different modalities.
