History

The Center for Phenomenological Research (Creph) was founded in 2001 at the initiative of faculty and researchers from the University of Liège — F. Caeymaex, G. Cormann, D. Giovannangeli, S. Laoureux, B. Leclercq, and D. Seron — with the aim of bringing together previously scattered initiatives within a more structured framework. Initially affiliated with the Department of Philosophy, the group became an official Faculty research unit following a resolution of the Faculty Council on October 6, 2004. In 2008, it merged with the University's Aesthetics Seminar of the University.

As a result of institutional restructuring in 2014, the group was integrated into the newly established "Teaching and Research Department of Philosophy". A further reform of the University's research organization in 2016 led to its transformation into a "research center" and its integration into the broader "Traverses" research unit. In February 2019, the group adopted its current name, "Centre de recherches phénoménologiques" (Creph), replacing its original designation, "Unité de recherche Phénoménologies" (URPh).
